7 wonderful months!

Ellie's 7 months old today, which is CRAZY. 7 mo feels so much closer to a year than 6 mo did... sort of like how 26 feels much closer to 30 than 25 did for me. And in honor of being 7 months, Ellie has decided to have 7 teeth. They just keep coming!!

We transitioned pretty well back to our quiet quiet apartment :) Ellie is taking her usual 2 naps a day so I'm back to working while she naps, and David is back full swing to teaching with trainings, staff meetings, etc. Every time we go away and stay overnight at a house we come back with the house-crazies... which are characterized by both of us thinking about how great it would be to live in place with more than 3 windows and a sliding door, a place with no elevator (as cool as Ellie will think that is when she's a bit older), aka a house. David and I are "investigating" the home ownership process just to see if it's feasible- we've heard "it's a good time to buy" but want to see if that applies to us, too.

Ellie's eating is getting better- in fact tonight she actually leaned forward to get another spoonful of her peach-oatmeal-banana mush. The doctor had said to let her "play with her food" since she wasn't expressed much interest in eating it, which after some experimentation we were able to take to mean smearing a giant rice paddle with baby food and letting her suck on it.

Another method of food play has been giving her a rice cracker smothered in baby food:

And finally, my favorite, and hers: just giving her spoons! She enjoys feeding herself, so we figure why not indulge her!

I'm glad eating is getting easier and that after 2 weeks straight of mutliple exposures to this peach-oatmeal-banana mush she's finally deciding she wants to eat it!

Ellie's doing great sitting up now too. It's fun also to see her imitation skills growing- she's blowing raspberries now (David regrets my teaching her this.... it's good fine motor lip control though!) and also is banging things together. I was amazed that she did this after my showing her and physically assisting her through it just a few times. Babies' brains are amazing!! I can't believe how quick she's "getting" things.

Crawling is definitely near breakthrough. She's tucking her knees in more and lifting her butt up in the air, and also is able to scootch herself backwards, and pivot her body to the side with her hands. Ellie's got the "intentional roll to get an object" thing down. She really likes spoons... and really just shiny things (a great early affinity to jewelry and technology):) so we figured we'd tempt her and see what happened!

This is my favorite recent photo of her, and it requires a bit of an explanation. We've been trying to get Ellie on a more regular bed time of 8pm, and we let her just cry/play in her crib for a while, checking in on her every so often. Well, this was what we saw when we came in. Somehow she'd gotten her arm out of her sleeve. Completely. The neck was a little loose, but it never occurred to me that she would be able to PULL HER ARM OUT. Crazy girl.

We sure love this girl!! It's hard not to.
